SharePoint 2010 Taxonomies from WAND

Taxonomy is an incredibly important ingredient for a successful SharePoint 2010 document managment project. WAND has created a library of pre-built foundation taxonomies that can be licensed to jump-start a SharePoint 2010 managed metadata and tagging initiative. These taxonomies can be immediately imported into the SharePoint and customized for a businesses specific need. Pre-built taxonomies can speed up any content management project.  If you can find one that is a good fit for your business, it is a best practice to use start with one.

Below is a list of the foundation taxonomies available from WAND that are ready to use in SharePoint 2010 term store. We'll keep this list updated so please check back often.  Many of these have specific posts in our blog and those that don't will be added over time.  These taxonomies have been specifically designed to give our customers a head start in tagging documents relevant to their specific industry or business need.  WAND Pre-built Foundation Taxonomies include important processes, topics, concepts, equipment, supplies, document types, and more depending on what is relevant for the industry or subject.

In addition to the specific taxonomy packages we have created for SharePoint 2010, custom taxonomies can be created from the additional taxonomies that we have available, specifically the WAND Product and Service taxonomy, the WAND Job Titles Taxonomy, the WAND Travel Taxonomy, and the WAND Medical Taxonomy.

The WAND Product and Service Taxonomy contains over 43,000 categories of all products and services down to the attribute template level of detail. We've taken some parts of the product and service taxonomy and included them in some of the taxonomies packages as well as created some entirely new packages such as our Materials Taxonomy. However, If you wish to create another custom package from the rest of the terms in our product and service taxonomy, please contact us and we can help you design something.

As always, any of the WAND Taxonomies can be used with our DataFacet Automatic Tagging Engine, a terrific add-on for SharePoint 2010.
